The Post-Budget Wealth-Building Playbook | The Investor's Way
For Australians who earn well and still don't feel wealthy

The 3-move system for building wealth in a post-Budget Australia, in about an hour a month.

Without picking hot stocks, or handing your money to anyone in a suit.

You're not behind because you're bad with money. You're behind because nobody ever taught you a system, and the institutions were never really in the business of teaching it. That's fixable.

The hope-and-pray method

You earn well. So why doesn't it feel like it?

Money arrives and leaves, and you couldn't say exactly where it went. You've got super you don't really understand, maybe a mortgage, maybe a property, and a nagging sense you should be further ahead by now.

You've read the articles and half-started a budget, twice.

You sat with someone in an office who used a lot of words and left you no clearer than when you walked in.

So you park it. Again. There's always something more urgent this month.

Meanwhile the clock runs. Every year without a system is a year of compounding you never get back. And compounding is the one advantage you can't buy later at a higher price. The cruel part? None of it shows up until it's expensive. You don't feel it at 35. You feel it at 60.

Here's the real problem

You think you have a knowledge problem.
You don't.

If knowledge were the issue, the smartest people you know would all be wealthy. And they're not. Plenty of high earners retire on far less than you'd expect. They didn't lack information. They lacked a system.

Wealth isn't built by knowing the right thing. It's built by doing a small, unremarkable set of things repeatedly, for years, whatever the market is doing.

You can't control the government, the banks, or what the Treasurer does at 7:30pm on Budget night. You can absolutely control a system.

This is the part you actually control.

Stop hoping the numbers work out. Get the free playbook and start your own system this week.

Why the old way fails

Three traps catch almost everybody

Trap 01

They wait for certainty

"I'll start when rates come down, when the Budget settles, when work calms down." Certainty never arrives. Waiting is one of the most expensive habits in personal finance.

Trap 02

They outsource it entirely

Handing it over feels responsible. But if you don't understand your own money, you can't tell whether it's working, or change course when your life changes.

Trap 03

They collect information

Another podcast, another article, another opinion. Knowledge feels like progress. But nothing moves until money moves.

None of those are solved by learning more. They're solved by running something.

The mechanism, taught

The PTS Method: three moves, about an hour a month

Plan. Take action. Systemise. It's deliberately simple, because simple is what people actually stick to. Here it is properly, so you can run it yourself.

1
Move 1 · Plan

Find your financial freedom number

Most people aim at "more", a treadmill, not a target. Replace it with one number. Start at the end: what annual income would you want your investments to pay you, so that work becomes optional? Then work backwards from a drawdown rate. Suddenly "be wealthy one day" becomes a maths problem with a destination, and a maths problem is something a system can chip away at.

Your freedom number: a 20-second sketch

Drag your target income, pick a drawdown rate, and watch the shape of the number appear.
The shape of your target
$2,000,000

Illustrative arithmetic only (income ÷ drawdown rate). Not a forecast, and not a view on what any portfolio can safely pay out. What a portfolio actually sustains depends on markets, fees, tax, how long you live and early-year returns. Your number and your rate will both be different.

2
Move 2 · Take action

Purpose, not budgets

Budgets fail because they run on willpower. Every month becomes a negotiation with yourself, and eventually you lose it. So don't budget. Give your money a purpose instead. Decide what each dollar is for before it arrives, and move the part that builds your future first, the day you're paid. Then spend the rest, guilt-free, because it's doing its job too.

Give a pay rise a purpose too, or it quietly turns into a better car. That drift has a name, lifestyle inflation, and it's why plenty of high earners hit 50 with an impressive salary and an unimpressive net worth. When your money has a job, the raise gets one as well.

One caveat worth saying out loud: if you're carrying high-interest debt or you've got no cash buffer, those usually come before investing. This page is general information, not a recommendation about your situation. Work out the order that fits your circumstances, or speak to a licensed adviser.
3
Move 3 · Systemise

Automate it, then measure it

Set the transfer up once, so it runs whether you're motivated that month or not. A system doesn't panic when the headlines turn ugly. You do. So take yourself out of the loop.

Then track it: net worth, what you own, what you owe, where you sit against your number. Most people have no idea what they're actually worth, which is exactly why money feels stressful. Seeing it, even when the picture is ordinary, is what turns anxiety into a plan. Done properly, this is about an hour a month. Not a second job. You can start Move 1 tonight with a pen, and Move 2 on your next payday.

Why it works

A simple machine that keeps running through the bad years

It removes you from the decision

Emotion is one of the biggest drags on results. An automated system doesn't feel fear at the bottom or greed at the top.

It's repeatable

A simple system you actually follow beats a sophisticated one you abandon in March. Repeatable wins.

It doesn't predict anything

Rates, budgets and headlines change the inputs. They don't break the machine.

No approach removes investment risk or guarantees a result, but a process you can keep running through the bad years is the part most people never build.

Who's teaching this

Woody didn't come to this from the outside

He spent years looking at real people's numbers up close and kept seeing the same thing: good incomes, sensible people, doing what they'd been told, and barely moving. So he built his own portfolio of property, stocks and other assets using a repeatable system, and reached his first million at 38.

That was his own result over his own timeframe, and it isn't an indication of what anyone else will achieve.

Straight talk

Who this actually suits, because it doesn't suit everyone

This is for you if…

  • You earn a decent income and have a nagging feeling you should be further ahead.
  • You want to understand your own money rather than hand it over and hope.
  • You're willing to look honestly at your actual numbers, even if the first look stings.
  • You can find about an hour a month.
  • It genuinely doesn't matter whether you're starting with a lot or almost nothing.

This isn't for you if…

  • You want someone to manage your money for you (Woody doesn't, and isn't licensed to give personal advice).
  • You're after hot tips, a fast double, or the next big thing.
  • You want to day-trade or speculate your way there.
  • You're not prepared to change anything about how your money currently moves.

If that second list is you, don't download the playbook. It'll annoy you.

From here

Two honest paths

Path one

Do it yourself

Everything above is real and it's yours. Work out your number, set your percentage, automate a transfer, start tracking. Plenty of people run it alone. It's just slower, you'll second-guess yourself, and most people quietly stall somewhere around the tracking.

Path two

P.S.

The rules will keep changing. Governments will move the goalposts and banks will do what suits banks. None of that is yours to control. The system you run is, and that's the only part that was ever going to decide how this ends.
